The Mission: The discipline of yoga is an approach to life with a focus on being fully present for each moment, rather than living off in the future or back in the past as so many of us tend to do. Over the centuries, yoga techniques combining philosophy, study of the body and mind, and a practice of physical postures, breath work, and meditation were developed as paths to the fully present, whole Self.

At Yoga Community, we bring our enthusiasm for developing the full person to you. Yoga is not a passing fad to us. We know our students' names our small classes bring a personal touch to our teaching and allow us to provide plenty of one-on-one instruction. Using detail-oriented instruction, we bring your attention and your intention to what is really here, in the Now. We share with you tools to develop awareness of your body, of your mind, and to uncover your inherent state of being. In classes we explore this awareness, as well as structural alignment, strength, flexibility, balance, and suggestions for living a fulfilling life. Our formula is simple: Attention + Intention = present moment awareness = the truth of life. All of our classes are invitations to join us in being present and in discovering your truth.
The Studio: The studio is located at 3311 West Clearwater Ave Suite D103 (3 stores west of Driver Licensing) in Kennewick, Washington. Yoga Community is centrally located with easy access from surrounding areas. Yoga Community offers a newly remodeled studio featuring a Swedish floor, wall rope system, contemporary colors to soothe and energize, and plenty of parking. The studio will accommodate up to 20 students. We supply blankets, belts, and blocks. Japanese maples, flowering trees and shrubs create a park-like surrounding with a courtyard, fountains and a cafe nearby.

About our Instructors
At Yoga Community, all of our instructors must demonstrate a passion for their chosen practice, have professional training and be committed to a path of inquiry and self study. Our yoga instructors are influenced by the Iyengar and Kripalu traditions of Hatha Yoga bringing precision, knowledge, compassion, and discipline to their practice. All instructors are encouraged to bring their own personality and gifts to their teaching.

Director Heather Anastos has found yoga to be a catalyst for transition in her life; first as a student, then as a teacher, and now in her new enterprise as owner of the studio.  She believes the practice is a powerful tool for physical, emotional, and mental healing. She has completed Level I Iyengar Teacher Training and is currently enrolled in the 200-hour Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program at the Center for Yoga in Seattle. Heather is also a 400-hour Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner course through Kerala Ayurveda in Seattle.
Karin Pierce first experienced yoga more than thirty years ago as playtime with her mother. Those good memories stuck with her, and she turned to yoga for pain relief after two car accidents fifteen years ago. In addition to her physical practice of yoga postures, Karin also studies yoga philosophy, breathing techniques, and meditation - all of which she incorporates into her classes. Karin has been seriously exploring and practicing yoga for almost fifteen years and teaching for seven years. In addition to her master's degree in Asian Studies, she has earned her 200-hour level nationally-recognized yoga instructor certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and is currently working toward her advanced 500-hour level certification.

Melani St. John found yoga as a path to renewal and balance in her hectic life as a stay-at-home mom. Her desire to share the physical and spiritual benefits with others led her to teaching. Melani has completed Level 1 Teacher Training at the Center for Yoga of Seattle and one year of the Center's monthly teacher training program.
Melani has taught Pilates and is a licensed Gyrokinesis trainer.  She brings insights from these disciplines to her yoga classes offering the student a unique experience.
Ashana (JoAnn) Fortman first experienced yoga later in life. She was looking for something to keep her flexible and strong so she could continue to work her acreage. She soon discovered that yoga was much more than just exercise - it was a path to physical and spiritual rejuvenation. Yoga soon became a way of life for her and she started teaching so she could share its amazing benefits. JoAnn has completed Level I Iyengar Teacher Training at the Center for Yoga of Seattle and has trained with Judith Lasater. She continues to deepen her own practice and to advance her teacher training.
Margaret Callahan is an occupational therapist and registered teacher. Twenty years ago, Margaret began yoga purely for the physical benefits. Over time, her practice has deepened to allow her to connect on both a physical and emotional level.
Margaret has been teaching for over four years. She has taken classes from well-known teachers Judith Lasater, Annie Ciekanski, Lauri Blakeney, Lilias Folan and Richard Schactel. She has completed three years of monthly Iyengar training and has completed level 1 teacher training at the Center for Yoga of Seattle.

Alice Rehm began practicing yoga in 2004.  She felt her flexibility, strength, and positive energy skyrocket as she continued exploring various styles of yoga.  In April 2007, she received her 200-hour teacher's certification from the Living Yoga Program in Austin, TX.  She is currently exploring different forms of yoga such as restorative flow yoga and face yoga to add variety to her classes.
