Take a two-hour vacation that will leave you feeling refreshed and renewed.  We will practice a sequence of restorative yoga poses (with the body fully supported), allowing the mind and body to become deeply relaxed.  Becoming quiet and relaxed causes physiological responses to occur that benefit us and reduce the effects of stress-related diseases.  Whether or not you have practiced restorative yoga before, these quieting and soothing postures will help relieve stress and fatigue as you decompress.  All levels welcome.

How does our yoga practice foster a sense of self-understanding?  This weekend will be devoted to looking at how a conscious yoga practice can allow us to see ourselves more clearly.  Through slowing down and turning our attention within, we can notice our habit patterns, and in noticing, we can then more consciously choose our experience.  Using the practices of yin style asana, active asana, pranayama, and meditation, we will cultivate openness and curiosity in which to meet ourselves, in our yoga, moment to moment.
About the Instructor:
Seattle yoga instructor, Shannon McCall, ERYT, has been on the yoga path since 1984, and teaching weekly classes and yoga retreats since 1990.  She is grateful to the many wonderful teachers who have imparted their teachings and inspired her practice over the years.  These teachers include Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten, John Friend and his Anusara style and Ana Forest.

The heat will be cranked up slightly (85-90 degrees) to ensure a nice detoxifying sweat. Bring a hand towel and water bottle! This class is designed for people in overall good health with previous yoga experience. Adventuresome beginners welcome.

Free Yoga Class for Beginners
Saturday, May 31, 9 - 10:30am.
Registration required, space is limited.
Always wanted to try yoga, but been unsure?  Now is your chance.  Yoga Community is offering a free class to beginners.  Come meet our instructors and experience a typical beginning yoga class.  You will learn to experience your body in its present state, how to modify yoga poses for your own body and abilities, and learn techniques for relaxation.  Beginners, including those who have never done yoga before, are welcome.
What to Expect:  Expect to work hard and sweat in class.  Expect challenges to your strength, flexibility, and balance.  Do not expect pretzel-like contortions (we save those for the Continuing Level classes) .  No yelling or militaristic instruction, and no "one-size-fits-all" yoga.  The instructors at Yoga Community specialize in making yoga accessible for all participants.
What to Bring:  Clothing should not inhibit movement, and should allow the feet and ankles to be visible.  Shorts and tank tops, or formfitting leggings are recommended.  Barefeet are essential.  If you would like water, bring it with you.  Do not eat immediately before class - eat a light meal 2-3 hours before class, or a snack 1 hour before. Yoga mats are available at the studio for use, but if you have one, please bring it!
